By virtue of being family owners, they also assumedly want the best and equal opportunities for their next generation regardless of gender. However the data does not support these assumptions. A 2019 study found that only 5% of large family businesses had female CEOs, compared with 8% of the Fortune 500. Join us as Adrienne Penta, Executive Director of the BBH Center for Women and Wealth, and Ben Persofsky, Executive Director of the BBH Center for Family Business discuss the findings from their recent study that examined the factors influencing the roles of women in family businesses. \n  \nAdrienne Penta – Managing Director, Executive Director of the Center for Women & Wealth \nAdrienne Penta is the Executive Director of the BBH Center for Women & Wealth (CW&W). She led the creation of the CW&W, which supports women as they create and manage wealth and seeks to create a dynamic and inclusive environment where women can engage in conversations about wealth, family, and values. Adrienne has expertise in values-based planning and assists families in making decisions about wealth in alignment with their values and objectives. She also oversees Private Banking Marketing and Sales Enablement. \nPrior to joining the firm in 2008, Adrienne practiced at the law firm of Choate, Hall & Stewart LLP in Boston. She serves on several boards, including the Home for Little Wanderers, New America’s Better Life Lab Advisory Council, and the Women’s Philanthropy Institute at the Lilly School of Philanthropy Advisory Board. She is also the vice president of the International Women’s Forum of Massachusetts. Adrienne is a past chair of the Boston Foundation Professional Advisors Committee and past member of the Winsor School Board of Trustees. In addition, she speaks and writes on a variety of issues related to women and wealth, wealth planning, and family communication about wealth and values. Adrienne received a B.A. in history and political science from Johns Hopkins University, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, where she was the executive editor of the Virginia Tax Review. \n  \nBenjamin Persofsky – Executive Director of the BBH Center for Family Business \nBenjamin Persofsky is Executive Director of the BBH Center for Family Business, which counsels some of the largest business-owning families in the world on the unique issues that occur at the intersection of owners’ businesses, their families, and their wealth. These topics include succession, governance, and next generation owner development. He is a frequent speaker at conferences on those topics, as well as on innovative approaches to share redemption, capital allocation, and dividend policies. Ben joined the firm in 2010. \nBen is on the executive and finance committees of the Philadelphia School Partnership and chairs its investment committee. He is also a volunteer pilot with Angel Flight East.  Ben received an A.B. in economics and business from Lafayette College and attended the University of Oxford as a visiting student concentrating on research in organizational behavior and developmental economics.
